Darlene M. King, 60, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at home.
Darlene Marie Watters was born on December 14, 1963 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Allan and Barbara Lynn (Carr) Watters. She was a graduate of Maquoketa Community High School. Following high school, she had worked for a short time as a security guard at the Anamosa State Penitentiary and later at Dubuque Packing Company until becoming disabled.
When her parents were living Darlene enjoyed being a caregiver for them. She also enjoyed crocheting, her cats, birdwatching, and following her nephews’ events.
Darlene’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by two nephews, Nathan Watters of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Kyle Watters of Andrew, IA; sister-in-law, Jayne Watters of Andrew, IA; aunts; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother John Watters.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at the Sutton Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Darlene Marie King memorial fund has been established.
