Donald L. “Don” Heath, 90, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family under the care of Hospice of Jackson County on Thursday evening, March 23, 2023.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at the Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.
Donald Lee Heath was born on October 18, 1932 in Baldwin, Iowa, to Charles Edward and Lulu Althea (Kenney) Heath. He grew up in Jackson County and was a graduate of Baldwin High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Army earning an honorable discharge. He married Marion Briggs on May 28, 1955 and one child, Pamela, was born to this union. He and Marion divorced, and he later met Jeannette Marie Martin while roller skating and they were married on April 28, 1957 in Davenport, Iowa. Six children were born to this union, Charles, Larry, Diane, Richard, Jeffrey, and Sherry.
She preceded him in death on April 10, 2016.
Don had first worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa until it closed. He then worked for Central Hydraulics in Clinton for five years, and lastly retired from Hoof Products in Maquoketa. In retirement, he worked as the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) bus driver for 27 years.
Don was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Maquoketa. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and roller skating in his younger years.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Pamela (Darcy) Krauss of Viroqua, WI, Charles (Rebekah) Heath of Ogden, KS, Diane (John) Ruff of Preston, IA, Richard Heath of Maquoketa, IA, Jeffrey (Glenda) Heath of Leesburg, FL, and Sherry White of Marion, IA; siblings, Lyle Heath of Peoria, AZ, and Charlene Molitor of Cedar Rapids, IA; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeannette on April 10, 2016, a son Larry, and grandson Justin Lucy.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Donald L. “Don” Heath memorial fund has been established.
