Dorothy McCarthy
Dorothy McCarthy, 91, of Dubuque, was called Home on Friday, September 27, 2024, at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center in Dubuque, with her family by her side.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Cathedral of St. Raphael with Father Dennis Quint as the Celebrant. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.
Dorothy was born January 30, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Rudolph and Helen (Hayes) Feldman. On December 27, 1951, she married Ronald J. McCarthy at St. Columbkille Church Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1999.
Dorothy managed the car rental department at Bird Chevrolet for 26 years. Dorothy’s greatest achievement and passion in life was her family, second to that was watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Survivors include six children, Sheila (Greg) Setter of Austin, TX; Maryann McCarthy of Fenton, MO; Ron (Jayne) McCarthy of Newton, IA; Janet McCarthy of Cedar Falls, IA; Mark (Kathy) McCarthy of Dubuque; and Lisa McCarthy of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Amy (Seth) Setter, Eric (Sara) Meyer, Shannon (Gage) Sizemore, Jillian (Jerry) Weldon, Nathan (Kaylan) McCarthy, Matt (Savannah) McCarthy, Tony (Meagan) McCarthy, and Nicole McCarthy; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Gentz; a daughter-in-law, Gina McCarthy; two sisters, Rose Decker and Rita Devaney; and a brother Elmer “Joe” Feldman.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Tri-State Dialysis.
