Sarah I. Easterly, 71, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, in Davenport, Iowa.
Sarah Irene Starks was born on February 18, 1953 in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Kathleen (Conter) Starks. Her early years were spent in Monticello, where she also received her education. Sarah’s heart found its match in Jerrold “Jerry” Easterly, and the two were wed on September 6, 1969, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Their loving partnership was blessed with six wonderful children.
Sarah’s life was a testament to her dedication to her family. As a homemaker, she was the cornerstone of the Easterly household, ensuring that her family was cared for with unwavering commitment and love. Her presence made their home in Maquoketa, Iowa, a sanctuary of warmth and happiness.
Sarah’s zest for life was evident in her passions. She was an avid shopper, finding joy in the thrill of discovering treasures at secondhand stores and on QVC. Her collection of items was more than a hobby; it was a way of sharing her love, as she often gifted these finds to her children. Sarah’s enthusiasm for shopping was matched by her love for western television shows, which she enjoyed in her leisure time.
Above all, Sarah’s greatest joy was found in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The time she spent with them was precious, filled with laughter, stories, and the creation of lasting memories. Her unwavering support and unconditional love shaped their lives and will continue to guide them.
Those left to honor her memory include her devoted husband, Jerry Easterly of Maquoketa, IA; her children, Theresa (Russell) Williamson of Baldwin, IA, Jeremy (Jane) Easterly of Maquoketa, IA, Rhonda (Lynn) Huebbe of Maquoketa, IA, Lisa Neofotist of Monticello, IA, and Joshua (Heather) Easterly of Forsyth, MO. Sarah’s legacy also lives on through her 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She is survived by her loving siblings, Mike (Connie) Starks of Monticello, IA, Kenny Starks of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mary (Mark) Lawrence of Marion, IA, Margaret Nelson of Anamosa, IA, and Carol Starks of Monticello, IA. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jonathan, and her siblings William, Rick, Bob, Janet, Joyce, and Sandy.
A private family service and burial will be held at a later date at Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa. At Peace Cremation Services have been provided by Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.
