2020 Dubuque County Fair modified to 4 days, July 30 to Aug. 2

As we are all keenly aware, COVID-19 has changed our lives over the last few months. The Dubuque County Fair Association’s Board of Directors has spent many hours discussing how we can proceed with our mission to bring people together and provide an atmosphere where family traditions are created and continued in Dubuque County. We have asked ourselves if we can safely provide a fair by following social distancing guidelines and other safety measures. We also had to decide if it was financially feasible to have a fair during these difficult times. We have been working with several local and regional agencies to help us make this decision including, Dubuque County Extension Office, Dubuque County Board of Supervisors, Iowa Association of Fairs, several regional county fairs, Dubuque County Health Department, and other officials.

After much debate, it was decided that this year’s Dubuque County Fair will be modified and shortened to 4 days. The 67th Annual Dubuque County Fair will be held Thursday, July 30, to Sunday, August 2, 2020. We will offer four days of fun, family, and friends, just as we always have in the past!

Some parts of the fair will look different than in years past. Most grounds entertainment has been postponed until next year’s fair. This includes the midway, roaming acts, and some competitions that cannot be done while social distancing. Rest assured that these mainstays of the fair will return for the 2021 Dubuque County Fair.

Out of an abundance of caution and to make sure we will be able to give the concert experience our guests expect for years to come, we’ve chosen to postpone both mainstage concerts. We will be providing additional details in the days to come. Existing ticketholders will have the option of keeping their tickets for the rescheduled dates or requesting a refund within a 30-day window. Ticketholders that purchased a ticket through our official ticket partner, ticketmaster.com, will receive an email directly from Ticketmaster. Individuals that purchased a ticket from the fair office will need to contact us directly at 563-588-1406 or at dbqfair@dbqfair.com.

Dubuque County 4-H/FFA exhibition details are still being worked on by the ISU Extension and Outreach with more information to come soon.

What you will definitely see:
• Thursday night: Sprint Invaders/Open Wheel Races

• Friday night: Demolition Derby

• Saturday: Fantasy Truck Pull and ECIPA Truck and Tractor Pull

• Sunday: Julien Dubuque Classic Races

We will also have bands each day in the Festival Garden, great exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall and on the grounds, and of course, Fair Food! We are continuing to work to bring you the best fair possible and are still brainstorming and revising our schedule. We will also be announcing information on Open Class Creative Arts Exhibits and Livestock Shows.

The health and safety of the community is, and always will be, the highest priority in producing the annual fair. In the interest of public health, the fair is working on implementing procedures to follow the mandated guidelines with social distancing, added signage, additional hand-washing stations, and increased cleaning/sanitizing procedures. As a reminder, if you feel that you are sick, vulnerable, or showing symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you please stay home and join us in 2021. We understand families and friends will need to come to their own decision on whether to participate and/or attend this year’s fair. Regardless of your decision, we look forward to seeing everyone in 2021. Our main goal is to bring a sense of normalcy to our wonderful community. We also have many service groups and volunteers who rely on our fair to raise money for their organizations and want to continue to provide them with that opportunity.

We will be updating our fair schedule and providing additional information as soon as possible. Please check our website at www.dbqfair.com for the latest information. We will also post updates on Facebook.

There are many, many moving parts to putting on our annual fair. This decision was complex and difficult, to say the least. We ask that you please be patient with us as we continue to work to make the fair happen.

Thank you for your continued support to help make the 67th Annual Dubuque County Fair the best that it can be for all involved in 2020!

Sincerely,
Dubuque County Fair Board Association
