Chanel Miller Announced as Keynote Speaker for Riverview Center Evening and Luncheon of Light Galas 2024

Join Riverview Center for our annual Evening and Luncheon of Light Galas on April 18 and 19, 2024 as we celebrate the resiliency of the sexual and domestic abuse survivors we serve daily. This year’s events feature nationally known author and artist, Chanel Miller.

We are honored to welcome Chanel Miller as our keynote speaker! She was known to the world as Emily Doe when she stunned millions with her victim impact statement, and now her memoir, Know My Name. Brock Turner had been sentenced to just six months in county jail after he was found sexually assaulting her on Stanford’s campus. Her victim impact statement went viral, including a reading on the floor of Congress; it inspired changes in California law and the recall of the judge in the case. Thousands wrote to say that she had given them the courage to share their own experiences of assault for the first time. In her memoir, she reclaims her identity to tell her story of trauma, transcendence, and the power of words.

Chanel Miller is a writer and artist who received her BA in Literature from the University of California,
Santa Barbara. Her critically acclaimed memoir, Know My Name, was a New York Times bestseller, a
New York Times Book Review Notable Book, and a National Book Critics Circle Award winner, as well as
a best book of 2019 in Time, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, NPR, and People, among others.

She was named one of the Forbes 30 Under 30 and a Time Next 100 honoree and was a Glamour
Woman of the Year honoree under her pseudonym Emily Doe.

Join us for one of these inspiring events, celebrating the healing journeys of survivors. The Galas showcase auction items from local businesses, lunch/dinner, stories of the impact of Riverview Center’s services, and our inspiring keynote speaker. Space is limited.
