City Announces New Security Deposit Assistance Program

Today, the City of Dubuque announced a new Security Deposit Assistance Program to help low-income households secure affordable housing. The program will assist households grossing under 50% of the area median income (AMI) with the financial burden of security deposits for eligible rental units.

The program is available for any licensed rental unit within the city limits. Financial assistance is up to the equivalent of two months’ rent and payments will be made by the City directly to the property owner on behalf of the tenant. This is a one-time benefit; applicants may only receive assistance through the program for one unit.

The Security Deposit Assistance Program is funded by a grant from the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA). The City has $50,000 to assist households on a first-come, first-eligible basis with priority given to those who are homeless or displaced.
