Dubuque Regional Airport Awarded Federal Grant for Taxiway Reconstruction Project

The Dubuque Regional Airport has been awarded a nearly $4.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support the airport’s ongoing taxiway reconstruction project.

The grant will allow the airport to move on to a second planned phase of the reconstruction of Taxiway A, which connects the hangars served by the Dubuque Jet Center to the airport’s runways. As part of the next phase, approximately 1,300 linear feet of the taxiway will be reconstructed. Another 1,000 linear feet will be added, providing an additional connection between the taxiway and the longer of the airport’s two runways.

“We are grateful to receive this federal funding to help continue the taxiway reconstruction project,” said Todd Dalsing, Dubuque Regional Airport Manager. “This grant will allow us to continue to improve our facilities, which serve private and student flyers as part of our larger effort to provide reliable and effective air service to Dubuque and the surrounding area.”

The total taxiway reconstruction project is planned to be completed over a total of six construction phases. The first phase is currently underway. The final phase is anticipated to be completed during the 2029 construction season. In total, 6,500 feet of taxiway is expected to be replaced, as it has reached the end of its useful life.

Each of the construction phases includes earth moving and grading, storm sewer drainage replacement, concrete paving, lighting and signage installation, adding pavement markings, and turfgrass stabilization.

The airport extends its gratitude to its federal legislative representatives, U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and U.S. Senators Joni Ernst and Charles Grassley, for their assistance in securing this grant.
