Former Major Leaguer Ben Zobrist to Throw Out First Pitch at Field of Dreams Ghost Player Event

Ben Zobrist, the most valuable player of the 2016 World Series, will throw out the first pitch of the Ghost Player event at the Field of Dreams Movie Site at 1 p.m. on August 3. The retired Major League Baseball player will be available for autographs and photos before the performance from 10-11:30 a.m.

The Ghost Player performance, the self-proclaimed “Greatest Show on Dirt,” features family-friendly entertainment centered around hi-jinks on the baseball diamond. The show runs for an hour.

Zobrist spent 14 years in Major League Baseball as a multi-positional player. A three-time All-Star, he was a member of consecutive World Series-winning teams with the Kansas City Royals in 2015 and the Chicago Cubs in 2016. He was named the 2016 World Series MVP.

Zobrist made his big-league debut with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2006 and played nine seasons with the club. In 2015, he spent the first half of the season in Oakland before being traded to the Royals and contributing to the team’s championship run. He spent the final three years of his career with the Cubs before retiring after the 2019 season.

The Field of Dreams Movie Site will host four Ghost Player performances in 2024—July 6, July 20, August 3, and August 17. All shows begin at 1 p.m. except for the August 17 show, which begins at 6 p.m. All shows are free to attend. Lawn chairs or blankets are encouraged.

No carry-in food or beverages are allowed. Concessions are available on-site.

The Field of Dreams Movie Site is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2024. It was originally the primary filming location of the film “Field of Dreams” and has since played host to millions of visitors. The Site features house tours, hosts baseball tournaments, and overnight stays in the house. Food and beverages are offered in The Dugout pub, The Stretch concession stand, and a new ice cream stand featuring Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream.
