Lundgren Suspends Campaign for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, Will Seek Reelection to Iowa House

January 26, 2026 – Today, State Representative Shannon Lundgren (R-Peosta) announced that she is suspending her campaign for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District to focus on her ongoing work in the Iowa House of Representatives and to prepare for reelection to her current seat representing House District 65.

“After careful consideration and discussion with my family, I have made the difficult but clear decision to suspend my campaign for Congress. Serving the people of Dubuque County in the Iowa House has been the honor of my lifetime. I remain deeply committed to fighting for Iowa values—strong families, small businesses, fiscal responsibility, and putting Iowa first—at the state level where I can continue delivering real results for our communities right here at home.”

Rep. Lundgren launched her congressional campaign in September 2025 with a focus on the America First agenda, building on her strong conservative record in Des Moines. During her time in the Iowa House—now in her fifth term—she has championed legislation on economic growth, health care access, lowering energy costs, and supporting working families as a small business owner, wife, mother, and grandmother.

“The challenges facing Iowa families are urgent, and I believe my voice and experience are most needed in the Iowa Legislature right now,” she continued. “From lowering taxes and supporting our farmers to protecting our communities and promoting opportunity, I’ve worked tirelessly to make Iowa a better place. I’m excited to keep that momentum going and intend to run for reelection to the Iowa House to continue this important work on behalf of the hardworking people of District 65.”

Rep. Lundgren expressed deep gratitude to the thousands of Iowans who supported her congressional effort through donations, volunteer hours, endorsements, and encouragement.

“I am forever thankful for the incredible team, volunteers, donors, and voters who believed in this campaign and stood with me every step of the way,” she said. “Your faith in me means more than words can express. While this chapter closes, our shared commitment to conservative principles and a stronger Iowa endures. I look forward to continuing to serve my district and our state.”

Rep. Lundgren will remain active in her role in the Iowa House, including her work on the Ways and Means Committee, Commerce Committee, State Government Committee and will focus on legislative priorities that are important in Iowa in the upcoming session and beyond.
