Barbara Jean Horstman

Barbara Jean Horstman, 66, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at her home in Colesburg surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg, with Pastor Roger White officiating. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood. Friends may also call one hour before the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Rural Colesburg.

She was born on December 29, 1951, in Edgewood, the daughter of Eldon and Pearl Faye (Hansel) Heer, and was raised and educated in Dubuque.
On February 15, 1969, Barbara was united in marriage to Clarence “Pete” Horstman. The couple resided near Colesburg. Four children were born to this union. After raising her family and caring for her grandchildren, Barbara began work as a teacher’s associate for Colesburg Elementary. She enjoyed her job, retiring in May 2017.

Barbara cherished her family. They were her entire life. She loved car cruises and served as secretary for the Cruisers on the Edge Car Club. She also enjoyed writing children’s books, playing cards, and drawing.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Clarence Horstman of Colesburg; four children, Elizabeth (Scott) Hoisington, Lee Allen (Christy Braden) Horstman, Robert (Kristy) Horstman, all of Colesburg, and Elisa (Kevin) Kuehl of Earlville; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Becky (David) Barnhart of Colesburg; a brother, Scott Seeley of Colesburg; and a sister-in-law, Jean Heer of Greeley.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gregory Heer.
