Dennis Charles House

Dennis Charles House, 72, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2899 Hales Mill Rd., and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 19, at the church. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul Amlin will officiate. Entombment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, where military honors will be accorded. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is entrusted with arrangements.

Dennis was born June 24, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Floyd “Russell” and Beverly (Daly) House. He attended school in West Des Moines, IA and East St. Louis, MO. Dennis served his country as Airman First Class with the U.S. Airforce from 1963-1967.

Dennis held Sales Manager positions with Clark Oil, Kerr-McGee, and Iowa Oil, and was also Director of Sales for Wholesale Gas. After retiring, Dennis worked part-time delivering parts and driving the courtesy car for Richardson Motors. He later began working for Deery Nissan delivering and picking up cars.

He married Jan Helwig on April 17, 2016 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, where he was a member.

Dennis had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. He was a friend to many and he always had a smile on his face. Dennis had a passion for horses, both raising and racing them. He enjoyed going out to dinner and visiting local wineries. Dennis thoroughly loved his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending much time with them.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Jan Helwig House, of Dubuque; his children, Teri (Kathy Conway) Link and her children, Tabitha, Noah, Eliza, and Chaz; Monica (John) Van Ess and their children Avery and Lainie; and Dennis House Jr. and his daughter Jenna; his step-children, Tom (Sue) Lehnherr and their daughter Mandi; Brian (Diane) Lehnherr and their son Cole; and Kathy (David Jones) Lehnherr and her children Danielle, Josh, and Kamryn; his sisters, Sharon “Kay” (Keith) Wallman and Lisa (Jack) Graham; his step-brothers Kelly and Kevin; his step-sister Christy; and many very special in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his sister LouAnn; his step-mother LaRay; his step-father Jesse; and his mother-in-law, Mildred.

The family would like to thank all of the healthcare givers who gave Dennis such wonderful care.
