Gene L. Duwe

Gene L. Duwe, 87, formerly of 1070 Roosevelt Street, Dubuque passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by his family.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. where friends may call from 9:00 to 11:15 a.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery with military honors. Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.

Gene was born February 5, 1931 in Guttenberg, IA. son of Lloyd and Ruby (Portwein) Duwe.

He married Nancy Strong, April 19, 1952 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Dubuque.

He attended school in Guttenberg.

Gene retired from John Deere in 1987.

Nancy was the love of his life and he enjoyed traveling with her to many places in the United States. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren in his later years. He rarely missed any of the families sporting events. Gene was a devoted and loving family man. His sweet smile and infectious laugh will be greatly missed.

Gene was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and served on their vestry. He was also a long time member of the Moose Lodge and the Leaky Lodge and a proud member of the Local UAW # 94. He served several years in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Surviving are his wife Nancy Duwe; children, JoAnn (Jeff) Chance, of Port Orchard, WA, Dennis (Janelle) Duwe, of Dubuque, Linda (Andy) Willging, of Sherrill, David (Kim) Duwe, of Dubuque, and Kathy (Ahmad) El-Ali, of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Jodi, Jason, Jeff, Ashley, Justin, Zachary, Brian, Brad, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Vince, Gabe, Alex, Samantha, Tim, Naomi, Abigail, Macey, Sofia; special life-long friend, Bob Wolf, special brother-in-law Wayne Wilming, and family friend Rick Heinz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Timothy and a granddaughter, Jill.
