Geraldine (Gerry) Skahill, 92, of Dubuque, passed away April 27, 2025.

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:45a.m., Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00a.m., with Rev. Steve Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Gerry was born on July 20, 1932 to Leo and Lettie (Rogers) Merfeld in Bernard, IA.

She graduated from St. Martin High School in Cascade.

Gerry was united in marriage to Robert J. Skahill on June 11, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Church, Garryowen. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1995.

Gerry spent her nursing years at Xavier Hospital and United Clinical Labs until her retirement.

In addition to being a longtime member of Saint Anthony’s catholic church, she enjoyed spending time with her family and volunteering to help others.

Gerry is survived by her children, Robert (Kerrie Avino) Skahill of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jill (Tony) Hesselman of Dubuque, and Sara (Greg) Lehman of Dubuque; grandchildren, Ashley (Sachin), Odilia, Tony, Jamie, Austin (Kim), and Grant (Cori); great-grandchildren, Landyn, Kenleigh, Grayson, Henry, Beau, and Graham. She is also survived by her sister, Madonna McAndrews of Dubuque, sister-in-laws Eileen Merfeld and Mary Ann Merfeld and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Mary (Al) Tigges, Leonard Merfeld, Margaret (Tom) Buchanan, Lavern Merfeld, Eileen (Allan) Redmond, Orlie (Maize) Merfeld, Carl Merfeld, Willie Merfeld, Grace (Paul) Kane; brother-in-law, Paul McAndrews; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Merfeld.

Gerry’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mount Carmel Bluff-Gables, and Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care given to Gerry. Their kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

A Geraldine Skahill Memorial Fund has been established.
