Calvary Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Jim was born on March 26, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Walter and Gladys (Schmitt) Henry.
Jim was a lifelong Dubuque resident who honorably served his country with the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Evelyn “Evie” Burdt, on February 20, 1954, at Sacred Heart Church, and the two were blessed with 8 wonderful children and 61 years of wedded bliss, before Evie was sadly called home ahead of him on February 13, 2016, just shy of their 62nd anniversary. Jim was raised with a strong work ethic and put those values to good use as a die maker with St. Regis Paper Company for 34 years, until his well-deserved retirement. In his free time, Jim enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop, creating beautiful pieces, especially clocks, to share with his family and friends. When he wasn’t at work or out in the shop, Jim could be found enjoying the great outdoors whether he was fishing or sitting around the campfire with Evie and the children. He enjoyed jumping in the car and going for a ride along the river, and was never one to say “no” when receiving an invitation to go out to eat. He had an infectious laugh and was well known for his love of joking around and teasing family and friends. His friendly and outgoing personality served him well while working the toll booth at Eagle Point Park for several years. Jim’s faith was also an important aspect of his life, a trait which was evidenced by his longtime membership with Sacred Heart Church. We are deeply saddened at the loss of our wonderful dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and friend, but are grateful that he is now free of the health issues that have plagued him these past years.
