James Durham
James “Jim” Durham, 62, of Dubuque, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 26, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a service at 4 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Jim was born October 23, 1956 in Decatur, IL, the son of Paul Eugene and Mary Irene (Gross) Durham. He grew up in Lisle, IL, and found his home in Dubuque, where he lived for many years.
Jim graduated high school in 1974, and served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Persian Gulf War, and also in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Jim was a huge sports fan, and was lucky enough to live to see all of his favorite teams win championships. His family would like to thank the Blackhawks of Jim’s youth, the 90’s Chicago Bulls, the 1985 Bears, and especially the 2016 Cubs for the joy and excitement they brought to Jim! He also enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts. Family was very important to Jim, and he loved family dinner game nights and spending time with his grandkids.
Jim is survived by three children, Michelle (Shawn) Breitbach of Peosta, Amanda (fiancé Matt Hubanks) Durham, and Thomas Durham, both of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Lucas, Ella, and Erin Breitbach; his step-mother, Janet Durham; three sisters, Linda (Terry) Bloome, Susan (Philip) Paradiso, and Nancy (Terry) Fisher; and two step-siblings, Julie (James) Jones Hackbarth and Linda (Jeff) Jones Booth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers in infancy, Thomas and Patrick.
The family would like to thank Bruce Dean for being a true friend for life, and to all the friends and family who have offered their tremendous support. Thank you also to the staff at Grand Meadow Luther Manor for their care of Jim.
