James Gronau, 60, of Dubuque, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 14, 2018, of natural causes.

According to his wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are entrusted to Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque.

Jim was born September 14, 1958 in Dubuque, the son of Walter and Elizabeth “Betty” (Burns) Gronau. In 1977, he graduated from Hempstead High School. He married Jackie Schoenauer on September 22, 2012 at Eagle Point Park.

Jim was employed at Tri State Quality Metals, and most recently at A.Y. MacDonald.

Our Jim was a man of many talents who was loved by many. His enthusiasm for life was contagious. He was always there to help family or a friend. He knew no strangers and made everyone around feel comfortable and smile.

Jim loved fishing and gardening, he was the family comedian-often cracking himself up with his own jokes, a master of glass and metal works, refurbishing and recycling everything old-his vision allowed him to see something new and his skills enabled him to make something new from those items. He loved to cook and can his gardens’ treasures. If you asked him, he was a master chef as well.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jackie; his step-children, Jessica “Jessie” Loewen, Cory (Amy) Kamm, and Cheryl Kamm; his grandchildren, Emma Loewen, and Gaby, Maliek, and Dustin; his siblings, Candy (Jim) Nelson, Mary Ann (Jim) Dausener, Debbie (Lyn) Knight, Shelley (Greg) Goeppner, Dedee (Tom) Cosgrove, and Dave (Terri) Gronau; his siblings-in-law, Sandy Gronau, Vickie (Bruce) Wagner, Eugene Welter, and Bobbie Lynch; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Joe, Herm, and many others.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother Fred; his sister-in-law Becky Welter; and his parents-in-law, Bob and June Schoenauer.
