Jean M. Kenkel

Jean M. (Lange) Kenkel, 81, of Dubuque, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center.

Friends may greet the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Deacon Marc Mossé will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Jean was born December 1, 1936 in Dubuque, the daughter of Clarence “C.J” and Gertrude “Trudie” (Eberlien) Lange. She married William F. Kenkel on May 22, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1988.

She was employed as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. Jean was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a current member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the St. Jude League, Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

Jean was always an animal lover, especially her cats.

Jean is survived by her brother, Bob (Paula) Lange of Dubuque; her brother in law, Robert Kipper of Valdosta, GA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and Kenkel family members.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clarence Lange Jr.; and her sister, Patricia Kipper.

The family would like to thank Jean’s entire Stonehill staff family for taking care of Jean; Joanie Fingerson for treating Jean like family and going above and beyond; Hospice of Dubuque and the Stonehill nursing staff for the loving care that made Jean’s last days comfortable; Stonehill homemakers Deb, Kate, and Doreen for preparing her favorite food to her liking; Sheila V. social worker, Lisa S. in dietary, and CNA Penny for her baths.
