Lorraine M. Gearheart

Lorraine M. Gearheart, 90, of Dubuque, passed away November 9, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd. Deacon Jim Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home.

Lorraine was born December 27, 1927 in Monona, IA, the daughter of Ben and Clara (Voss) Sudol. She married Paul L. “Catfish” Gearheart on November 24, 1955 in Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2014.

Lorraine was employed in housekeeping for Clarke College for many years. She enjoyed camping, crochet, crafting, and playing cards (especially Euchre). Paul and Lorraine loved to travel, and visited every state, including Alaska. Lorraine was a devoted homemaker for her family, and she loved to cook and clean. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was everything to her.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Connie Allen, Larry (Mary Jo) Gearheart, and Daniel (Yolanda) Schlitter, all of Dubuque; 9 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; her sister, Frances Rothmeyer of Monona, IA; her special niece and nephew, Daryl Garner of Florida and Kathy Michel of Dubuque; great nieces and nephews, a special cousin, Millie and husband Jim Zeller of Dubuque; and her special animal friend, Doonie the cat.

In addition to her husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Vickie Schlitter; her step daughter, Sharon Gearheart Krier; her son in law, Steve Allen; and her granddaughter Vicky Krier.

The family would like to thank Lorraine’s neighbors, especially the Reids for all their help over the years; Clarke University for their prayers; the staff at Sunset Park Place , Stonehill and Hospice of Dubuque. A special thanks to Dr. Liaboe and his nurse Trish for the wonderful care and concern over the years.
