Scott S. Hendron

Scott Svend Hendron, age 61, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness on August 4, 2025. To celebrate Scott’s life, private family services were held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, is assisting Scott’s family.

Scott was born in 1964 at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Spencer and Susan (Hansen) Hendron. His father’s time in the Air Force brought a series of moves across the United States and across seas to West Berlin, Germany, before ultimately settling in Park Ridge, Illinois, where Scott spent his formative years.

Growing up, Scott was highly intelligent, competitive, and determined in all aspects. He was very industrious and began working on his own initiative delivering papers in the dark, early morning hours before school. He was an enthusiastic and aggressive football player, made the traveling team, and was eventually  awarded the highest honor of his hometown league. He also participated in area youth wrestling competitions.

Scott was born with the engineering gene thanks to his maternal grandfather, Svend Hansen, a Danish engineer himself. Scott spent many hours with his grandfather in the workshop which was rocket fuel for his engineering ambitions. Scott excelled in math and physical sciences in high school. During his senior year, he worked as a draftsman at a small local engineering firm, and he graduated from Maine South High School in 1982.

Scott was accepted into the prestigious University of Illinois School of Engineering and graduated with honors in mechanical engineering. In 1986, he was hired by Komatsu Dresser Industries where he worked for several years. During that time he also began raising a family with his then-wife, Mary, and together they had three children: Matthew, Jack, and Caroline.

Moving on to advance his interests, he was given a position at John Deere in Dubuque, Iowa. At Deere, he was highly regarded and assigned cutting edge projects domestically and internationally while working in advanced research and design. He also established over 30 patents for John Deere.

Scott was an avid and voracious fisherman fueled by family vacations on fishing lakes in the northwoods of Wisconsin. He always kept his love for the outdoors and instilled it into his sons Matthew and Jack on camping and fishing trips. He also became an inveterate tinkerer and creator. He worked on many projects including woodworking, furniture making, model building, electronic, 3-D printing, and building skateboard ramps for his kids. Scott was always tirelessly creating and perfecting his newest inventions.

Scott retired from a successful career at John Deere in 2018. Scott’s partner, Patti Fedewa, cared for him until he passed away with her at his home.

There is so much more to describe his life and endless creativity, ingenuity, enthusiasm, and sense of humor. He leaves a huge void and is beyond sorely missed by his family.

He is survived by his children Jack and Caroline, their mother Mary Hendron, partner Patti Fedewa, his parents Spencer and Susan Hendron, siblings Jennifer (Diether) Remeikis, Erik Hendron, and Annie Schmidt, nephews Andrew Schmidt, Kirk (Sam) Remeikis and Seth Farina, nieces Jillian and Kelsey Remeikis, Amileah Hendron and Emma Schmidt, Aunt Donna Blake, cousins Matthew (Marie) and Jason Blake, and his partner’s children Steffanie (Brad) Bakker, Jordan (Matthew) Sherman, and Keith (Mary Grace) Westpfahl.

He is preceded in death by son Matthew Hendron, maternal grandparents Svend and Elsie Hansen, and paternal grandparents Marvin and June Hendron, and partner’s daughter Deidre Westpfahl.

Cards and memorials in Scott’s memory may be mailed to Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, Iowa 52001, Attn. Scott Hendron Family.
