Vernon L. Mangler

Vernon L. “Vern” Mangler, 60, of Delmar, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 27, 1965, in Maquoketa, Iowa, he was the son of Robert Lee and Carol Marie (Waugh) Mangler. Vern’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the joy found in simple pleasures.

A graduate of Delwood High School, class of 1983, Vern’s work ethic was evident from an early age. On July 20, 1985, he married his sweetheart, Virginia Rosemary “Ginny” Ingles, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Together, they welcomed three wonderful children into the world: Ashley, Curtis, and Trevor, who were the pride and joy of his life.

Vern’s professional journey was marked by his versatility and commitment. Beginning his career while still in high school, he worked for Al Oltmann’s farm for nineteen years. His diverse skills also led him to the Maquoketa Airport, where he painted planes for the CB company, and to HOOF Products in Maquoketa. For 16 years, he honed his expertise as a tool and die maker at Jackson Industries in Maquoketa. In 2003, Vern joined Ross River Wick Buildings, and later, he spent 12 years at Guardian Glass in DeWitt. His most recent position was with Sonac in Maquoketa, where he worked until his passing. In addition to his full-time work, Vern was a talented carpenter and the proud owner and operator of Vern’s Lawncare mowing business, which he ran for many years.

Vern’s passion for lawn mowing was more than just a job; it was his therapy. He took great pride in his work. He also was a devoted John Deere fan and could often be found tending to his yard with his favorite green and yellow equipment. His love for the Iowa Hawkeyes was equally strong, as he enthusiastically supported all their sports teams, never missing a chance to cheer them on.

Those left to honor Vern’s memory will be his wife, Ginny Mangler of Delmar, IA; children, Ashley (Raymond) Dosland of Lost Nation, IA, Curtis Mangler of Delmar, IA, and Trevor Mangler of Delmar, IA; his four grandchildren, Thane and Maddie Bayles, and Owen and Emma Mangler, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia “Patty” Nordmeyer of Ankeny, IA, and Annette “Netter” (Keith) Grimm of Delmar, IA; brother-in-law, Jimmy Ingles of Maquoketa, IA; and many nieces and nephews.  His special furry friend, Nelly, will miss his gentle presence. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Karen Mangler, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Ingles and Betty Ingles Miller.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating Vern’s life will be held from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M., Friday, February 7, 2025, with a prayer service beginning at 1:30 P.M., at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Burial will be at Bridgeport Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, at a later date.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Vernon L. “Vern” Mangler memorial fund has been established.
