Wayne L. Maro
Wayne L. Maro, 81, of Dubuque, passed away on December 23, 2024, with his family by his side.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31. 2024, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with a funeral service to be held at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Wayne was born on March 31, 1943, to Lawrence and Delores (Weber) Maro. He married Anita Lee Koenig on November 28, 1964, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and together they raised six kids. Wayne and Anita had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family. Wayne was employed with Spahn and Rose for over 40 years.
He loved to do woodworking, and there was no project too big or too small. Wayne never turned his back to help others, he could not wait to tackle another project. He also enjoyed camping, country shows, and horseback riding with his horse Jill.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Anita; children, Barbara (Gordy) Blum, Carol (Joseph) Knockel, Dan (special friend, Karen) Maro, Deanna (Jeff) Riniker, Carla (Scott) Gilles, and Mary (Isaac) Maro-Sanchez. His grandchildren, Tyler (Gabby Kane-Langel) Knockel, Michelle (Ryan) Spear, Jenna Knockel, Katie (Dalton) Knockel-Kohn, Zachary (Riza) Blum, Ashley (special friend, Zach) Maro, Emily Maro, Madeline and Emma Gilles, Austin Riniker, Jameson and Willow Sanchez; along with five great-grandchildren. His siblings, Shirley Koltes, Bonnie (Fred) Deutmeyer, Jerry (Janel) Maro, Delbert Maro, Diane (Tom) Schmitt, Ken (Sheila) Maro; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Delores Maro; his sister Lois, his brother in law Lavern Koltes; his mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Albert Koenig and his sister-in-law, Judith Koenig.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Wayne’s name.
