St. Francis of Assisi: Birds, Wolves, Bulls, and Bears (Oh My!) with Margaret Carney OSF
Join us virtually via Zoom!
In collaboration with the Franciscan Federation, we present the third in our four-part series commemorating the 800th anniversary of the passing of St. Francis. Sr. Margaret will share recent understandings of how Francis and his early followers addressed the economic realities of their time, especially with the emergence of a merchant class. She will explore ways modern citizens of a capitalist country can find practical lessons and directions from the early friars’ experiences. What could the wisdom of modern-day Franciscans bring to the discussion? Many already know the stories of Francis and the birds and Gubbio’s wolf, but what does he have to say to the “bulls and bears” of Wall Street? Many people feel that the commitment to poverty made by St. Francis presents a barrier to following his teachings and example. How can we overcome this barrier?
