Agnes “Fran” Marie Decker, 81, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Friends and family may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A Wake Service will be held prior to the visitation at 12:45 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at St. Joseph the Worker with Very Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Agnes “Fran” was born on December 4, 1944, to John and Frances (Pfab) Decker in LaMotte, Iowa. She attended St. Joseph School in Key West and the Academy of the Visitation in Dubuque. She received her BA and master’s degree from Clarke College in Dubuque. She was a teacher for many years with the Western Dubuque School District, with her last teaching position at Drexler School in Farley, Iowa, until her retirement in 2006.

Fran’s great faith and prayer guided her life. She was a former member of the Sisters of the Presentation and was grateful for the positive impact it had on her life.  Fran was a very active member of St. Joseph the Worker and was very generous with her time volunteering throughout the community. She was a member of the Power of Prayer as well as the Love Holy Trinity Blessed Mission for many years.

Fran loved to play cards during her sibling get togethers and enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally. She was the most amazing sister, mother and grandmother to her three daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love for them was known through her kindness, laughter, and humor. She had infinite forgiveness and loved unconditionally.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Dawn Saunders, Shawnda Cappetto, and Kayla (Steve) Whalen; her grandchildren Eryn (Jacob) Wernimont, Janna Cappetto, Sarah “Mary” Trpkosh-Wolbers, Colin (Raine) Cappetto, Michael Saunders, Summer Anne “Sam” Whalen, and Kyra Johnson; her great grandchildren, Griffin, Leland, Zachary, and Cody Wernimont, Luca and Mylo Cappetto; siblings, Monica (Cletus) Thielen, Darlene Collins, John “JJ” (Erma) Decker, Louis (Darla) Decker, Melita (Virgil) Hansen, Bernadine (Mark) Giese, and Kenneth Decker; sisters-in-laws, Evelyn Decker, Elizabeth Decker, Charlene Decker, and Lynn Decker; along with many nieces and nephews; and her dearest friend Marilyn Loewen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Margeret Mary Decker, William Theodore Decker, William Nicholas Decker, Albert Decker, Raymond Decker, Vincent Decker, Hubert Decker, and Harvey Decker; sisters-in-law, Mary Decker, Callista Decker, Phyllis Decker; brother-in-law, Jim Collins; niece and nephews, Karen Manders, David Decker, and Mike Decker, Dennis Hansen.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Hospice of Dubuque and for the countless gifts of food delivered in these past days.
