Allan R. Werden
Allan R. Werden, 80, Baldwin, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
Allan Ray Werden was born on March 2, 1946, at home on the family farm in Baldwin, Iowa, to Carl B. and Alma M. (Stanton) Werden. He grew up in the Baldwin area, attended elementary school in Baldwin, and graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1964. He carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, responsibility, and devotion to family that were shaped during those early years on the farm.
Following high school, Allan answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He served honorably from August 31, 1964, until his discharge on August 15, 1967. His years of military service reflected his quiet strength, sense of duty, and willingness to give of himself for others. After returning home, he married Judy Rae Watters on November 18, 1967, in Baldwin, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Sheryl, Amy and Dale. He then resumed the life he knew best and continued to build a life centered on family, work, and community.
Allan spent his life working hard and contributing wherever he could. Upon returning home from serving his country, he continued farming the family farm, a way of life that remained close to his heart. He also worked for many years at Agvantage FS, formerly C & J and FS, in LP propane sales and service in Maquoketa until his retirement. His strong work ethic, reliability, and steady presence earned the respect of those who knew and worked with him.
Allan loved the simple and meaningful things in life. He enjoyed farming, fishing, deer hunting, canoeing, and especially talking and visiting with people. He had a friendly nature, and he found joy in conversation. Those who knew him will remember his easy manner, his dedication to the land, and the way he made time for the people around him.
Allan’s legacy is carried on by his children, Sheryl (Gene Bonnell) Werden of Maquoketa, IA, Amy (Brian) Clark of Donahue, IA, and Dale (Nancy Witt) Werden of Baldwin, IA; 4 grandchildren, Thomas Clark, Braydenn, Brinley, and Brextin Werden. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy on October 3, 2024, parents, and a sister Lois Ann Potter.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, November 6, 2026, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at the Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa.
