Alvin Blum
Alvin “Al” Blum, 90, of Dubuque, died Monday, July 6, 2026, in his hometown of Dubuque, IA.
The Funeral Service for Al will be at 10:30 am on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory with Rabbi Todd Thalblum officiating. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.
Alvin was born on August 3, 1935, the son of Max Morris and Sylvia (Weiner) Blum. On April 13, 1965, he married Suzanne Sadler in Chicago, IL.
He was a longtime member of the Dubuque business community, running the Blum Company business that his father began in 1928 and continued until 2021, when Al retired at the age of 85.
Al proudly served in the United States Naval Reserves for 18 years. He was a member of the Dubuque Elks Lodge and Temple Beth El. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years and was a lifelong euchre player and fan of the Green Bay Packers. Above all, Al treasured time spent with his family at their cabin on Lake Delhi, where he especially enjoyed taking the boat out on the water.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Suzanne Blum of Dubuque; three children, Emily (Ernesto De La Rosa) Blum of Chicago, IL, Jeffrey (Joyce) Blum of Fishers, IN, and Francine (Kevin) White of Ames, IA; six grandchildren, Garrett White, Naomi White, Lucas De La Rosa, Jonah White, Max Blum, and Evelyn Blum; brother, Sidney Blum of East Dubuque, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; cousin, Ed Heller; and brothers-in-law, Robert Sadler, Charles Bertling, and Michael Sadler.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Patty Hicks, Al’s home care nurse, for all of her care over the past several months. Also, to Ennoble Nursing and Rehabilitation for the tender and compassionate care they gave to Al and his family.
