Ann Marie (Schissel) O’Hea, age 76, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024 at Harmony Dubuque.

Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 20th, 2024 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 21st, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dubuque. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Ann was born on April 29, 1947 in Dubuque, IA to Bill and Ivanelle (Thome) Schissel.  She married Gerald “Jerry” O’Hea on January 13, 1973.  He preceded her in death on March 1, 2004.

Ann graduated from the Visitation Academy.  She was a homemaker while her children were young and returned to the workforce in 1994 as a library assistant at Wahlert Catholic High School.   Ann was an avid reader and had found her ‘dream job’ of working with kids and books.

Her greatest joys in life were being a mom and grandma.   Our mom was the epitome of love and never met a stranger.   She and dad welcomed many of our friends to Sunday family dinners and never wanted anyone to spend a holiday alone.   Ann spent many hours rocking, coloring, reading, watching movies, baking, playing cards and snuggling with her grandchildren.   She followed each one in their favorite activities, never hesitating to share their accomplishments with her friends, neighbors, and visitors.  Her love for them had no boundaries, which included an occasional bowl of ice cream for breakfast at Grandma’s.

Ann enjoyed a good game of Euchre and playing bingo with her friends at the Diamond Apartments.  She looked forward to her Saturday lunches with the “Viz Girls” at Village Inn and relied on their prayers over the years.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Katie (Roberto) O’Hea-Marrero and their children, Liliana, Korbin and Quincy.  Her son, Patrick (Catherine) O’Hea and their children, Madison and Tiegan.  Son-in-law, David Kaiser and his children, Jaxon, Charlie, and Simon.  Siblings, Liz (Chris) Cox, Jerry (Joyce) Schissel, Tom (Linda) Schissel, and Jim (Wendy) Schissel.  In-laws: Mary McGrath, Louann O’Hea, Mary O’Hea, and Don (Colleen) O’Hea.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, daughter Molly Kaiser, and Jerry’s siblings, Delmer O’Hea, Jeannette O’Hea, Lois (Joe) Stelken, Theresa (Paul) Wagner, and Peggy (Mel) Vyverberg.

Ann’s family would like to thank Dr. Chris Stille, Dr. Ramanujam Ramabadran, Connor Golden, PA.   A special thank you to the staff at Harmony Dubuque, especially Noreen and Ryan, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kelli and Paul.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be distributed to Ann’s favorites charities.
