Arleen A. Perez
Arleen Ann Perez, a loving, selfless, and kind woman, passed away suddenly on May 30, 2023, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Born on January 8, 1961, in San Diego, California, Arleen was a cherished wife, mother, sister, and aunt who left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Arleen spent her early years in Guam, where she attended Notre Dame Catholic High School until 1977. She then moved to Chula Vista, California, and graduated from Castle Rock High School in 1978. Arleen’s education laid the foundation for her lifelong love of learning and her dedication to helping others.
For the past 20 years, Arleen worked as a paraeducator for the Maquoketa Community School District. She began her career at Cardinal Elementary, where she served from 2004 to the 2012/2013 school year. Arleen then transitioned to Maquoketa Middle School, where she worked from 2013/2014 through the 2018/2019 school year. Most recently, she provided invaluable support at Maquoketa High School, taking attendance, assisting with online classes, and offering library support from the 2018/2019 school year until her passing.
In addition to her work within the school district, Arleen was a dedicated part-time clerk at the Maquoketa Public Library for the last four years. She was a great supporter of all school district activities and greeted countless students and their families by taking tickets at various games. Her warm presence and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on the community.
Arleen’s interests included reading, shopping, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and, most importantly, spending time with her family and friends. She was a beacon of love and support for those fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Arleen is survived by her loving husband, Peter Weirup of Maquoketa, IA; her devoted son, Peter (and fiancé KayLynn Knight) Perez Weirup of Maquoketa, IA; her caring siblings, Anita (Bill) Baluka of Escondido, CA, Julie (Bruce) Teffeau of Las Vegas, NV, and Gregorio Perez of Guam; her in-laws, Rhonda (Rich) Miller of Delmar, IA, Merle (girlfriend Lori) Weirup of Bettendorf, IA, Jeff (Cynthia) Weirup of Grand Mound, IA, and Arnold (Denise) Weirup of Fairfield, IA; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister-in-law Lydia Perez.
