Arlene J. Budden

Arlene J. Budden, 93, of rural Cuba City, WI, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Stonehill Health Center in Dubuque, IA, with her family by her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sinsinawa, WI, with Fr. Peter Auer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, IL, where the Parish Scripture Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Arlene was born on December 31, 1931, in Menominee Township of Jo Daviess County, IL, the daughter of Paul B. and Amelia J. (Tranel) Hilby.  Arlene was united in marriage to James B. “Jim” Budden on November 10, 1954, at Nativity BVM Church in Menominee, IL. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2015.

Arlene and Jim formerly farmed in the rural Cuba City area. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Parish and the Christian Mother’s Sodality.  She spearheaded the St. Joseph’s Mulligan event for many years, enjoyed gardening, working with her strawberry plants, doing puzzles, an avid euchre player, and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.

Surviving are six children, Janet Godfrey, Hazel Green, WI, Gary Budden, Kevin (Janet) Budden, and Randy Budden all of Cuba City, WI, Judy (Dave) Kelly of Prairie du Chien, WI, and Karen (Paul) Wagner of Dubuque, IA; 11 Grandchildren, Kyle, Brett, Scott, Stacy (Doug), Aaron, Casey, Jacob, Shawn (Sarah), Tony, Michelle (Carmen) and Abby; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Sadie, and Dean; her siblings, Jane Middendorf of Menominee, IL and Mae (Jerry) Kuhl of Hazel Green, WI; her-in-laws; Richard (Kay) Budden of Hazel Green, WI and Judy Budden-Takes of Cascade, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Amelia; her husband, Jim; a son Brian in infancy; a son-in-law, Dave Cammack; her siblings, Luella Belken, Earl Hilby, Ethel Martin, Helen Roth, Lillian Tranel, Vi Pluym, and Richard Hilby.

Arlene’s family would like to thank Fr. Peter Auer for his visits and prayers, the nurses and staff at Mercy One Dubuque-the CVU unit, and Stonehill Care Center for the excellent care given to their mother and grandmother.
