Barbara A. Watters

Barbara A. Watters, 83, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, May 10, 2024, at Maquoketa Care Center.

Barbara Ann McCrady was born on January 25, 1941, in Rockford, Illinois, to Paul and Marian (Hawn) McCrady.  She attended grade school in Rockford, Illinois and graduated high school in Maquoketa.  She married Jerald A. Watters on November 23, 1959, at Barb’s parents’ home in Maquoketa. They lived in Maquoketa prior to the closing of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad.  They then moved to DeSoto, Missouri where Jerald worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. They resided there for 24 years, moving back to Maquoketa in 2018.

She was a homemaker and she cared for other people’s children.  She was a people person and did whatever she could to help anyone. Barb was a member of First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa and Mt. Olive Methodist Church in DeSoto, Missouri.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband Jerald Watters of Maquoketa; her children Kim (Sonny) Goble of Wyoming, IA, Cindy (Les) Monson of Maquoketa, IA, James (Stacey) Watters of Hobart, IN, Mike (Shelley) Watters of Michigan City, IN, and Jennifer (Eric) Waltert of DeSoto, MO; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren with one on the way;  a brother Robert (Bonnie) McCrady in LeClaire, IA and a sister-in-law Elaine Watters of New Orleans, LA.   She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, a brother Steve McCrady, a sister Lorraine McCrady and a brother-in-law Harold “Louie” Watters.

A graveside service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. There is no visitation. 

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Barbara A. Watters Memorial Fund has been established.
