Bernard Kutsch
Bernard “Red” Kutsch, 99, of Bellevue, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. Donatus Catholic Church in St. Donatus. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Burial with Military Honors, conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post #273, will be in St. Donatus Catholic Cemetery in St. Donatus.
Bernard was born October 8, 1925, in Dubuque, the son of Clem and Clara (Neises) Kutsch. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. Bernard served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1944–1946.
He married Adeline “Addie” Kilburg on June 24, 1950, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Andrew. The couple moved to St. Donatus on October 31, 1954. Bernard worked for John Deere Dubuque Works in Advanced Manufacturing as an analyst for 35 years, retiring in 1982. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing and fixing small engines and woodworking. Bernard was also an active member of St. Donatus Parish.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 75 years, Addie; five children: Diane (Darrell) Kalmes, Carol (Richard) Udelhofen, Doris (Marty) Ernst, Rose (Brad) Schilling, and Kevin “Chip” (MaryAnn) Kutsch; grandchildren: Chad (Lily) Kalmes, Jennifer (Russell) Michels, Joseph (Lisa) Ernst, Tammy (Steven) Harms, Christopher (Kati) Ernst, Jason (Jennifer) Noonan and Dylan (Season) Kutsch; and 15
great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Harold (Vivian) Kutsch, Walter (Marie) Kutsch, Francis (Delilah) Kutsch, Richard (Lorraine) Kutsch, Clara (Henry) Kubitz, and his twin sister, Bernice (Justin) Niensteadt, granddaughter Dawn Kalmes and son in law Darrell Nemmers.
A memorial fund has been established in Bernard’s memory.
