Bonnie M. Miller

Bonnie Marie (Zahina) Miller, 82, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 2, 2026.

Bonnie was born on August 1, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Milan Zahina and Marie Slaght. She spent most of her life in Dubuque. On June 1, 1963, Bonnie married the love of her life, Bruce Miller, at St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque. Together they shared a beautiful life and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of their family.

Bonnie worked at the Julien Care Facility for 25 years, retiring in 2004. Following retirement, she and Bruce enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In 2013, they moved to Laughlin, Nevada, where they enjoyed a new chapter of life together, savoring retirement. In 2018, they relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to be closer to loved ones.

Family was the center of Bonnie’s world. She found great joy in cooking for those she loved, especially during the holidays, when family gathered around her table to enjoy her famous German potato salad, Texas sheet cake, sage stuffing and sweet-and-sour chicken wings. She loved doing puzzles, playing bingo and euchre, and spoiling her grandchildren with little trinkets that always brought smiles. Bonnie was happiest when surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Milan and Marie; her beloved daughter, Tracey; her nephews, Brett and Blaine Dunne; her sisters, Phyllis (William) Dunne and Carol Barrett; and her brother, Gerald Zahina.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Bruce; her children, Tina (Scott) Gunderson, Todd Miller, Lisa Miller, Lance (Jane Buse-Miller) Miller, Cary (Bob) Tittle and Chad (LaRue) Miller; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 3 grand dogs. She is also survived by her brother, Marvin (Jim Peters) Slaght; her sister, Mary Kay Zahina; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the emergency care team and the staff at Lutheran Hospital for the compassionate care and support they provided to Bonnie and her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Dubuque, Iowa.

Bonnie will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit and her joy for life. The memories she created and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
