Brandy Jo Barnhart, 27, of Dubuque, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023 after a 20 year battle with juvenile diabetes.  A private memorial service will be held. A public celebration of life to be held at a later date.

Brandy was born April 12, 1996 in Dubuque. She graduated from Dubuque Hempstead High School in 2014.

Brandy enjoyed going to Camp Hertko Hollow, a camp for children with diabetes.  She had hoped to return as a counselor.

She enjoyed spending time with her sisters and cats.

Brandy had a great smile that would light up your day.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Rhonda and Mark Nickolas; her father, Scott Barnhart; three siblings, Alex (Ashley) Kirton, Shaylee Nickolas and Malethia Nickolas; nephew Noalyn Carner-Kirton; and niece Athylian Kirton.

She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, JoAnne and Glenn Kirton; paternal grandmother, Norma Barnhart; step grandmother, Sharon Nickolas; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Bella (whose father was Danny Kordell); paternal grandfather, Duane Barnhart and step grandfather, Ronald Nickolas and an uncle, Cliff Barnhart.

The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank all of the medical professionals who have helped Brandy, especially the doctors and nurses at Tri-State Dialysis.
