Calvin R. Breeden

Calvin R. Breeden, 54, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday evening, July 29, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Calvin Richard Breeden was born on March 7, 1971 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Robert Allen and Brenda Mae (Barnhart) Breeden.  He was a 1989 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School.  In 2012, Calvin’s life was enriched when he met the love of his life, Kathy Ann Mock. Their love blossomed, and they united in marriage on February 17, 2023, in DeWitt, Iowa.

Calvin began farming at a young age, embracing the values of hard work and perseverance. He took great pride in the Century Family Farm, pouring his heart and soul into the fields that had been tended by generations before him. In addition to farming, he co-owned and operated Breeden Vermeer Sales with his parents.

Calvin was a member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau.  He enjoyed working on and restoring old cars, traveling, going to the casino with his wife Kathy, and was known for his big appetite.  Above all, Calvin’s favorite and most cherished person in his life was his wife, Kathy.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kathy Ann Breeden of Maquoketa, IA; children, Britanie Breeden of Long Grove, IA, Joshua (Blayne) Breeden of Maquoketa, IA, Macaully (Mallory) Breeden of Clinton, IA, Marcus Breeden of Monticello, IA, and Rebecca (fiancé Adam) Mock of Eugene, OR; his parents, Robert “Bob” and Brenda Breeden of Maquoketa, IA; brother, Douglas (Beth) Breeden of CA, and nephews Zach and Kal of Lakeville, MN; and brother, Ross Breeden of Maquoketa, IA and his very close nephew, Jordan Breeden of Maquoketa, IA.  He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his uncle James “Jim” (Sara) Breeden.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Friday, August 1, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Burial will be at Sutton Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the family.
