Carl was born on July 17, 1939, in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Homer and Teresa (Paczynski) Moyer. Carl honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 in Korea. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Welsh on November 16, 1963, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Key West.

Carl worked at Adams Company, Vulcan Tool, and the Dubuque Packing Company. In retirement, he also enjoyed working at Lacoma Golf Course. A lifelong outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and canoeing – especially his hunting trips to Waukon, first with his brothers, and later with his sons and grandsons. Carl dedicated his time to serving as a scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop #69, teaching hunter-safety classes, and serving on the original Board of Directors of the Key West Sportsman’s Club. A skilled woodcarver, he was especially known for his beautifully crafted duck decoys.

Carl enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers. He loved playing cards – especially euchre and cribbage – and made sure everyone in the family knew the basics. Over the years, he also served as a Dubuque County Sheriff’s Special Deputy, was a member of VFW Post #9663, and a volunteer with the Key West Fire Department. Carl never sat still – he was a hard-working family man who could fix anything.

Carl is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Diane Moyer, Ben (Sharon Lyons) Moyer, Bob (Sara) Moyer, Joe (Jean) Moyer, Teresa (Rich) Gansen, and Karen (Kevin) Capesius; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margie Welsh; and brothers-in-law Gary Hohmann and Frank Martin.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Teresa; parents-in-law Clem and Jean Welsh; five brothers, Edward, LeRoy, Nicholas, Bernard, and Stanley; two sisters, Marion Schubert and Cathy Hohmann; sisters-in-law Lorraine Moyer, Carol Moyer, Geri Ryan, and Boots Martin; and brothers-in-law Milt Schubert, Donald Welsh, and Paul Ryan.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Bethany Home, and the nurses and volunteers of Hospice of Dubuque for their amazing care of Carl.
