Carol was born June 12, 1942, in Colorado, the daughter of Floyd and Genevieve (Desmarteau) Patterson (Till). Carol moved to Bellevue in 1945 and resided there until 2016, when she entered Methwick’s Arbor Place/Woodlands for memory care in Cedar Rapids. Carol served as an Elder and taught Sunday School for many years at First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, was very active in Jaycee’s, and was a charter member of the Ski Bellevue water ski club where she performed atop the first 3-man pyramid and was the first to parasail for the club. Carol was a seamstress and made many costumes for drama, band, and ski club. Carol was a first generation, post-secondary graduate of Bayless Business College – Dubuque and worked for the US Coast Guard – Dubuque, upon graduation.
Following the birth of her second child Carol elected to stay at home and devote her life to raising her kids. Carol volunteered often in support of the Bellevue Comets Booster Club and attended all home and away games and activities of her two children, which were many. After her children graduated from high school, she returned to work and held positions as a salesclerk for Armstrong’s Department Store-Dubuque, as a secretary for the University of Dubuque and as an office manager at Jim Schroeder Construction, where she worked for 20 years before retiring. Because of her love for people and her outgoing personality she also worked part-time as a hostess/assistant manager at Happy Joe’s Pizza and hostess and bartender at Potter’s Mill. Carol also assisted at Flower Lane Florist during Valentine’s Day for many years.
Carol had many talents but one near and dear to her heart was making candy and baked goods for the Lord’s Acre Auction for the First Presbyterian Church – Bellevue and her locally coveted candy at Christmas, which she gave away as gifts. She also taught her candy making craft to others through the Northeast Iowa Community College – Peosta, Iowa campus.
