Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.  A private family funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Charles was born October 11, 1952, in Leon, IA, the son of Clarence and Sarah Akes Butcher. On July 31, 1976, he married Pam Torrey at St. Mary’s Church in Dubuque.

Chuck graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1971.

He retired from John Deere Dubuque Works.

Chuck found joy in life’s simple pleasures-taking his grandkids for rides on the lawnmower, listening to live bands, sipping on an ice-cold Pepsi, and tinkering with cars. Known fondly as the “Carburetor God of Dubuque,” he had a knack for engines and a love for puzzles, Facebook, and YouTube. He also had a unique curiosity for cemeteries and the stories they held. A true animal lover, Chuck adored his birds, his dog Muffin, and his cat Mimi. No trip was complete without a stop at Dairy Queen, and he treasured every moment spent with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Pam; one son, Aaron (Abigail) Butcher of Dubuque; one daughter, Alicia (Alex) Ellerbeck of Asbury; four grandchildren, Adeline, Alice, Zenner, and Zealand; two brothers, Jim (Norma) Butcher, and Jack (Joan) Butcher; three sisters, Mary Lou Palmer, Patty Feller, and Debra Osterkamp; three brothers-in-law, Allen Gloeckner, Bill Hallahan, and Mike (Krista) Torrey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Don and Shirley Torrey, one sister Bonnie Gloeckner, one brother-in-law, Paul Feller, and one sister-in-law, Peggy Hallahan.

The family would like to thank Stonehill Communities, Hospice of Dubuque, and a special thanks to his lifelong friend Mark and Java Gilligan.
