Blackie was a proud United States Marine Corp veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He dearly loved his wife and was a devoted, loving husband for their 62 years together. He was an avid golfer, gambler, and loved all sports; he was in the Dubuque Area Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. He had many friends throughout the Dubuque area, he never met a stranger. Summers spent at their cabin at Lake Delhi are some of their favorite memories as a family. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Sister Sharon, Home Instead, especially Martha, Hospice of Dubuque, especially Amanda, and all of the staff at the Dubuque VA Clinic for all of their compassionate care given to Blackie.
