David T. Fondell
David Thomas Fondell, 81, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Sunday, Sept 24, at Luther Manor Hillcrest.
Friends and relatives are invited to a Celebration of Dave’s Life from 2-5pm on Wednesday, Sept 27, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home, 2659 J.F. Kennedy Road, Dubuque, IA. A service will be held there at 5 pm.
Dave was born on December 6, 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Andrew Michael & Mary Ann (May) Fondell. He married Betty (Edwards) and she preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Deb (Schute).
Dave is survived by his wife, Deb; his daughter Barb Fondell of Dubuque and son David Jr (Darsey) of Davenport, Iowa & brother-in-law, Mike Schute of Farley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew & Mary & wife Betty Fondell, two daughters, Tina & Carol. He also was proceeded in death by brothers, Joseph (Rite) and James (Patricia) (Judy) all of Dubuque.
Dave grew up with construction in his blood, starting with Fondell & Sons Construction working with his father and two brothers. Dave continued to work construction all his life with the exception of owner/operator of Dubuque Hydraulics Co. His final work was for himself in D.F. Excavating.
Dave was known for and loved cooking full hogs, fresh hams, & beef. At one point he would average cooking 100 hogs a year. He also enjoyed cooking for Moose Events.
Dave has been a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 234 for over 50 years. Dave also has been a member of the Dubuque Moose Lodge, Moose One, since 2006, holding the Fellowship Degree of Honor & Moose Legion.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Finley 5 Medical/Surgical, the nurses and staff at Luther Manor Hillcrest, and Hospice of Dubuque for all the compassion and loving care. Thank you also to his long time physician, Dr. John Whalen. Thank you also to all of the family and friends too numerous to mention for all the love and support for Dave & his wife, Deb.
