Diana K. Henry
Diana K. Henry, a cherished wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024, in Maquoketa, Iowa, at the age of 89.
Diana Kay Henry born on September 21, 1934, in Jackson County, Iowa to Dean and Golda (Rockwell) Gilmore. She attended Maquoketa High School, graduating in the class of 1952, and soon after, her life took a romantic turn when she married the love of her life, Lowell Henry, on October 19, 1955, in the picturesque setting of Niagara Falls, New York. Together, they welcomed their son Tony, who became a treasured addition to their family.
Professionally, Diana was known for her meticulous work and warm presence at Jackson State Bank in Maquoketa, where she served as a teller for five years. Her artistic talents led her to pursue further education in oil coloring by studying under Kay Isaacson, a nationally known artist who specialized in transparent oil painting. She learned a skill that would greatly enhance the family business, Lowell Henry Photography. For over 68 years, Diana and Lowell worked side by side, capturing memories and creating beautiful portraits. Before color film was commonplace, Diana’s expertise in applying transparent oils to black and white images brought photographs to life, earning her numerous awards for her exceptional craftsmanship.
Diana had also been a member of the Photographers Association of Iowa, where she connected with fellow photographers and shared her passion for the art. Her interests, however, extended well beyond the lens. Diana found joy in the simple pleasures of life: her love of dogs who were an important part of their family, walking, tending to her garden, and beautiful flowers, losing herself in the pages of a good book, and traveling to explore old plantations and the rich history they held.
Diana’s is survived by her devoted husband, Lowell Henry of Maquoketa, Iowa; her brothers, Larry (Lorraine) Gilmore of Maquoketa, IA, John (Alice) Gilmore of Maquoketa, IA, and Tom (Mary) Gilmore of Maquoketa, IA; a sister-in-law, Donna (Alden) Browne of Altoona, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Golda Gilmore, and her beloved son, Tony Henry, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in 2003.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, March 8, 2024, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Humane Society.
