Dolores “Doe” Ethel Said Bendixen, 86, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Monday, March 25, 2020 at Maquoketa Care Center after many years battling Cancer and Parkinson’s Diseases.

A private family funeral service celebrating her life will take place on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  A private family visitation will be held at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Burial will be at the Sutton Cemetery, formerly Teters Cemetery, north of Fulton.  Officiating will be Don Combs of Hospice of Compassus.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Bendixen, Hiawatha, and three sons, Tom (Marlene) Bendixen of Maquoketa, Steve Bendixen of Dewitt, Mark Bendixen of Maquoketa; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary Said of Maquoketa; a special cousin, Sherri Reid of Onslow; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty Wirth and three brothers, Donald, Ronald and Rodney Said.

Dolores entered this world on April 24, 1933 in Maquoketa, the daughter of Vern and Sylvia Teters Said. She was the granddaughter of Walter and Ellen Hibbs Said and Ernest and Iva Croce Teters. She attended Maquoketa Schools and Kirkwood Community College. She married Hans Bendixen of Wyoming on April 12, 1950 later divorcing. Dolores worked 15 years as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Crestridge and Maquoketa Care Centers. She worked 12 years at Jack and Jill Grocery at the courtesy counter and as bookkeeper. In 1985, Dolores became a licensed Massage Therapist. She was a member of The Community Church (formerly The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) and a past member of the Eagles Club.

She was very committed to her family and friends lending a helping hand when needed. Doe loved to dance always saying, “I’d rather dance than eat”. Other hobbies included: quilting, embroidery, cake decorating, decorating her home for the holidays, traveling and genealogy.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, staff and friends at Maquoketa Care Center and the nurses and staff of Hospice Compassus for all the compassionate care over the years for our mother.
