Dolores “Dode” Merfeld, 89, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 4:25 a.m., at Monticello Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Dode may call from 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa where a wake service will be held at 2 p.m. and Cascade American Legion Auxiliary rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.

Services for Dode will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2019 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.

Dode was born October 3, 1929 in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Louie and Annie (Koppes) Leesekamp. She graduated from St. Martin’s High School in Cascade, Iowa. On June 30, 1955, she was united in marriage to Joseph Merfeld at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. She worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, IA for many years. Dode enjoyed doing all things crafting especially crocheting and embroidering.

She was a member of St. Mathias Parish and the Cascade American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Merfeld of Cascade, IA; one daughter, Lisa Manternach of Cascade, IA; three sons, Mark (Deb) Merfeld of Monticello, IA; Tim (Kim) Merfeld and Todd (Dana) Merfeld both of Cascade, IA; 14 grandchildren, Tanya Deutmeyer, Brooke Kite, Paula Moatz, Jake Manternach, Brandi Keenlance, Melissa Hanewicz, Tony Merfled, Kiel Merfeld, Mackenzi Copper, Jamie Copper, Allyson Merfeld, Isaac Merfeld, Natalie Merfeld and Eli Merfeld; 11 great grandchildren; One sister, Betty McMahon of Waterloo, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl Merfeld of Monticello, IA, Louis (Gladys) Merfeld of Dubuque, IA, Allan (Beverly) Merfeld of Rockford, IL, Gerri Merfeld of Benton Harbor, MI, Cheryl Merfeld of Garden Prairie, IL, Rose Marie Oswald of Monticello, IA, Annabelle Gudenkauf of Manchester, IA and Theresa Drew of Cascade, IA

She was preceded in death by her Parents; one son, Jeffery Merfeld in 1965; one daughter, Pamela Merfeld in 2003; one sister, Irene (Melvin) Peiffer; one great grandson, Matthew Keenlance; sisters-in-law, Mary (Lawrence) Ahlers, Peggy Merfeld and Judy Merfeld; brothers-in-law, Bob McMahon, Frances Merfeld, Robert Merfeld, Carl Merfeld, Earl Oswald, Gerald Gudenkauf and Ralph Drew.
