Donald H. Klostermann

Donald H. “Donnie” Klostermann, age 82, of Dyersville, IA, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on February 16, 2026, at MercyOne Senior Care. All who knew and loved Donnie are invited to join his family from 2:00-4:00 p.m., on Sunday February 22, 2026, at the Field of Dreams Barn Event Center, 28995 Lansing Road in Dyersville.  A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier, 104 3rd Street SW in Dyersville, and burial will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dyersville American Legion Post #137. 

Donnie was born on April 8, 1943, in Petersburg, IA, a son to Everett and Bernice (Kruse) Klostermann. He was raised on the family farm in Petersburg and graduated from St. Boniface High School in New Vienna. Donnie was a talented athlete and helped to take his St. Boniface basketball team to state with his ever capable “hook shot”. Following high school, Donnie honorably served his country in the US Army from 1962-1969.

On November 24, 1966, he married Cheryl Winter at St. Clement’s Church in Bankston, IA. Donnie worked for his brother Floyd prior to owning and operating Don’s Feed and Supply in Worthington, IA. The store became a meeting place for area farmers, sharing coffee and conversation. Over the years, Donnie continued his love of sports by participating in bowling, basketball, and golf leagues. He was a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He served on the St. Francis Xavier School Board and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

Donnie was a loving and caring person who rarely put himself first, and lived a life centered around others.

Those left to cherish the memory of Donnie include, his loving wife of 59 years, Cheryl Klostermann, Dyersville, IA; his five children, Kari (Jeff) Wittmeyer, Dyersville, IA, Cindy (Bob) Hess, Dyersville, IA, Jason (Stacey) Klostermann, Marion, IA, Jamey (Kori) Klostermann, Dyersville, IA, and Dominic Klostermann, Dyersville, IA; his eight adored grandchildren, Ali (Adam) Prier, Jessica Hess, Michael Klostermann, Morgan (Tyler) Thein, Benjamin Hess, Elijah (Jackie Hutchinson) Hill, Dayton (Allison Peshek) Klostermann and Sadie Klostermann; his six great-grandchildren, Ayden, Bryce and Cecylia Prier, Tyson and Stella Thein and Violet Hill; his sister, Mary Kay Westhoff, New Vienna, IA; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Janice (Jere) Litsinger, Naples, FL, Ronnie Winter, Asbury, IA, Judy (Steve) Pitz, Cascade, IA, Sandy (Alan) Vaske, Epworth, IA, Linda (Ed) Fischer, Kalona, IA, and Randy (Judy) Winter, Marion, IA; and his honorary family members, Darryl and Shandta Kendall.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Bernice Klostermann; his brother, Floyd Klostermann; his sisters-in-law, Esther Klostermann and Carol Winter; his brother-in-law, Gerald Westhoff; and his mother and father-in-law, Sylvester and Evelyn Winter; and his granddaughter, Angel Klostermann.

Donnie’s family would like to thank the loving staff at MercyOne Senior Care and Hospice of Dubuque for all their personal and compassionate care.
