Donald W. Plumley Jr., age 71, of Dubuque passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Stonehill Health Center surrounded by his loving family. Per Don’s wishes, graveside services will be held at Center Grove Cemetery on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.  Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street is assisting Don’s family.

Don was born on November 15, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Donald W. and Lulubell (Allen) Plumley Sr.

Don attended Prescott School, Jefferson, and then graduated Hempstead High School, Class of 1974.  He married Mary Theresa Healey on June 25, 1976, and then they parted ways, but remained friends.  Don started his work life with Dad at Don’s Conoco Station learning the trade.  He was later employed at Ray Allen Texaco Station and then worked in maintenance for the City of Dubuque.  Don really enjoyed puzzles, jigsaw and 3D, and watching his soap operas everyday.  Old time country music was always his preference.
Don was a “fixer” and could find a solution to any problem.  He was crafty and creative
making wooden animals for the children.  Don rode his electric scooter all over town and lastly his electric wheelchair wherever he needed to go.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Donald Plumley, Sr.; a brother, Chris (Gigi) Plumley; a brother-in-law, Bruce Oertell; and his former wife, Mary Healey Plumley.

Don’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Stonehill and Hospice of Dubuque for their outstanding care and support of Don.  Lulubell and the family would also like to thank Rick and Joyce and Alecia for their loving help in caring for Don.
