Donavon A. Klahn
Donavon A. “Red” Klahn, 90, of Lowden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at his home.
Donavon Alfred Klahn was born January 10, 1936, in Wheatland, Iowa, to A.M. and Hilda (Strackbein) Klahn. He graduated from Calamus – Wheatland High School. Donavon was united in marriage to Brenda Joyce Cowder on March 31, 1984, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Donavon, known as “Red”, worked for Don Sanderson Ford in Buckeye, Arizona, in the Heavy-Duty Parts Department for many years. Red enjoyed riding horseback and atv’s in the desert with Brenda. He enjoyed taking trips and sightseeing over the years. Sundays were reserved for family dinners, and the occasional “nip” of whisky.” Red was a tinkerer and loved fixing whatever was broken, especially cars.
Red is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter Brenda (Stephan) Merkel of Trier, Germany; his stepchildren Jodie Johnson of Andrew, IA, and Bill Johnson of Kewanee, Il; and two grandchildren Leonie and Nicolas Merkel of Trier, Germany. Red was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Brenda Klahn.
At Peace Cremation Services have been provided by Carson Celebration of Life Center, Maquoketa, IA. Private family services will be held at a later date.
