Donna M. Clark

Donna M. Clark, 90, of Baldwin, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2025, at home.

Donna Mae Scott was born on May 9, 1934, in Baldwin, Iowa, to Harold R. and Doris (Stickley) Scott.  A graduate of Baldwin High School in 1952, Donna’s passion for education led her to Upper Iowa University, where she earned her teaching certificate. Her commitment to lifelong learning saw her attain a Master’s degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. On August 1, 1954, Donna married John Elza Clark in Baldwin, Iowa. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Mary Ellen.

Donna’s professional life was marked by her devotion to nurturing young minds. She began her teaching career in Baldwin before joining the Maquoketa Community School District in 1961. For nearly three decades, she was a beloved second-grade teacher, shaping the lives of countless students with her wisdom and warmth until her retirement in 1990.

Donna found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener of both flower and vegetable gardens. Sewing was another of Donna’s talents, a hobby through which she expressed her creativity and love for her family, stitching together memories that would last a lifetime.

Donna’s memory will be lovingly honored by her daughter, Mary Ellen Bailey of Baldwin, IA; her grandchildren, Jake Bailey and Jessica Nelson; and her great-grandchildren, Kristina Chapman and Kenley Nelson. Each of them will carry forward her legacy of love, education, and the joy of life’s simple pleasures.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John on June 27, 2011, brother Billy Scott, and sisters Leota Risden, Doris Taylor, Judy Scott, Joann Topping, and Pam Brutsman.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 A.M., Friday, March 7, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 P.M., Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Burial will be at Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Donna M. Clark memorial fund has been established.
