Dorothy Ann (Kennicker) Crews, 82, of Dubuque passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 7, 2026 with her family by her side. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at Holy Spirit Parish-Holy Ghost Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on September 10, 1943 in Dubuque and raised in Sherrill, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph “Chubby” and Stella (Kintzle) Schueller. On August 3, 1968, she married Leon Kennicker at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sherrill, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1976. After the loss of her husband, Dorothy and her girls moved back to Dubuque to be closer to family. She was an amazing woman having raised Annette and Cherie despite never having worked outside the home before or driven a car. She was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Parish Holy Ghost Church where she and several women cleaned the church weekly for many years. She later worked in the Kitchen at Loras College taking pride in the fact she never was late for her shift and often would walk to and from Loras. She also volunteered at Mercy One Hospital for many years.
Dorothy was proudly known as aunt “Dot” and a second mom to many of her nieces and nephews. She was an avid Cub fan and enjoyed playing bingo, penny poker, euchre, doing crossword puzzles and going to the casino. Her favorite past time however was being with her girls and grandchildren.
Dorothy married her second husband, Francis Crews on September 5, 1997 in Galena, IL. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2004.
She is survived by two daughters, Annette (Mark) Prier and Cherie (Rick) Faulhaber; four grandchildren, Alexis and Kyle Prier and Sam and Clair Faulhaber; five siblings, Ron (Doris) Schueller, Joseph Schueller, Diane Boge, Bonnie (Joe) Garner and Donna Heiderscheit and many nieces and nephews.
She was also survived by three stepchildren, Mary Jane Houtaker, Mary Anne (Richard) Sherman and John (Tassie) Crews and ten step-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Eugene Schueller.
Memorials may be given to Stonehill Communities.
Dorothy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the Stonehill community and Hospice of Dubuque for their amazing care of Dorothy, especially Jeremiah, Michelle and special friend Amy. A special thank you to her granddaughter Alexis for being her best friend and providing the entertainment. Dorothy will be sadly missed, especially for her smile and one line opener “Oh Hi”.
