Dorothy Aschtgen
Dorothy Aschtgen, 93, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Accura Healthcare in Cascade, Iowa.
Visitation for Dorothy will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. A Private family burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.
She was born March 28, 1932 in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Jacob and Rosella (Conter) Lemmer. She is a graduate of the former St. Martin’s High School in Cascade. On October 12, 1950 she was united in marriage to Elmer Aschtgen. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1975.
Dorothy worked for Ensign Coil until they closed, she then worked for the Cascade Telephone Company for 25 years, and later drove the RTA bus for years.
She loved to play bingo, do puzzles and mend clothing. She was a volunteer at the River Bend Retirement Community and Shady Rest where she called bingo for the activities department. She was a terrific cook some of her best dishes were her Roast Beef, her pie crusts and scalloped potatoes and ham. Her favorite past time was hosting her family when they came to visit.
She is a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade and the Cascade American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by four children, Paul Aschtgen of Cascade, IA, Herb (Jane) Aschtgen of Springfield, NE, Joanne Kremer of Monticello, IA and Cindy (Steve) Stoll of Cascade, IA; 14 grandchildren; Aaron (Lisa) Aschtgen, Andrea Aschtgen, Jacob Aschtgen, and Chris Aschtgen, Jodie (Tony) Koziel, Carrie (Nick) Warak, Lance Aschtgen, Ryan Aschtgen, and Devan (Chad) Fedderson, Jesse (Becky) Kremer, Stacy (Tony) White, Angie (Marty) Bergfeld, Jason Coyle (& friend, Jenn Sweeney), and Nick (Jill) Stoll: 22 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; five siblings, Robert (Madonna) Lemmer of Monticello, IA, Rosie Mason of Omaha, NE, Betty Johnson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Monica Chapman of Manchester, IA and Mike (Laurie) Lemmer of Cascade, IA; and a sister-in-law, Janet Lemmer of Waterloo, IA.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Andy Kremer; two sisters, Patricia (Bill) Lux and Theresa (LaVern) Chapman; her brothers, Dick Lemmer and Jim Lemmer; her sisters-in-laws, Mary (Pat) Finn, Clara (Less) Schafer and Dorothy “Doddie” Aschtgen of Colorado; and her brothers-in-laws, Bill (June) Aschtgen, Glen Chapman, Dean Mason, Dick Johnson and Donnie Aschtgen
