Dorothy K. Langel, 93, of Luxemburg, Iowa passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue from 9 – 10 a.m. on Monday morning at the funeral home prior to funeral services.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Luxemburg with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.
Dorothy was born July 22, 1932, in Rickardsville, Iowa, daughter of Gilbert and Marcella (Schmitt) Sahm. She married Lavern Langel on August 6, 1955, in Rickardsville, Iowa. Together they raised their family and farmed on the Langel family farm near Luxemburg for 45 years until retiring in 2000.
She was always one to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to family, friends and anyone she met. Dorothy had many hobbies that included bowling, playing cards, gardening, fishing with Lavern, watching the Cubs and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She also enjoyed many family vacations and was always up for the next adventure.
Survivors include her children: Sherry (Bob) Hayes of Holy Cross, Daniel Langel and Steven (Dee) Langel, both of Dubuque; grandchildren: Mike (Katie), Sarah, Lisa Hayes and Erin Langel; 3 great-grandchildren: Nolan, Ethan and Quinn Hayes; step-grandchildren: Destiny Ortman, Christina (Scott) Geweke and Dustin (Elise) Fannon; 4 step great-grandchildren; 7 step great-great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Doris Langel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lavern in 2001, a brother, Bill (Doris) Sahm; in-laws: Elmer (Mary) Langel, Germaine (Art) Ungs, Virgie (Lester) Dingbaum, Sally (Alvin) Wegmann, Melvin Langel.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Sherie Langel, who cared for her over the past two years, friends and neighbors for watching over her and for their wonderful care and compassion. We would also like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kris.
