Douglas L. Thompson
Douglas Lee “Doug” Thompson, age 79, of Dodgeville, WI, completed his earthly journey on October 4, 2026, peacefully at home. To honor Doug’s life, a Celebration of Life service is being held in the future. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Doug’s family.
Doug was born on July 17, 1947, in Dodgeville, WI, a son to Carlyle A. and C. Marie (Roethlisberger) Thompson. His love for farming began at an early age and Doug was truly blessed to spend almost his entire life doing what he enjoyed most. After high school, he began full time on the family farm, focusing primarily on dairy, pigs and crops. In 1972, Doug purchased his own farm. Doug found joy where others saw work. He strived for the best returns of his time, talents and efforts even when it wasn’t a great year, which anyone who has spent a single day on a farm soon learns. He still savored the opportunity to try it again and see what the Lord had in-store for the next season. Doug eventually retired from farming in 1999 and let the next generation take the reins, but not before his experience and wisdom were faithfully shared and modeled to keep his legacy firmly intact.
Doug turned his affinity for John Deere Tractors into a hobby as well and when he found a new addition to add to his collection, you could be sure he was ready to tackle the next project. Doug also enjoyed day trips whenever he could and when his loving bride had a destination in mind, you could often find Doug with an eager attitude and smile in hand ready to make the most of their time together.
Doug was a man among men, truly the kind of man this world really cannot afford to be losing, but thankfully the kind of man who intentionally, and yet almost effortlessly, leaves a positive imprint on the world around him while he can. May all of the love and lessons Doug leaves behind today help to comfort the broken hearts of all who knew and loved him as we move forward in this new reality without his physical presence in our daily lives. Thank you, Doug, for leading by example, reminding us that knowing when it’s time to listen vs. time to speak is a priceless gift, and undeniably leaving the world in better condition when you left than when you had arrived. We will miss you more than you could ever know and may the Lord bless and keep you safe in His loving arms until we all meet again.
